The Anisotropic Network Model (ANM)

  • The anisotropic network model (ANM) is the extension of the GNM to the 3N-d space of collective modes.
  • The inter-residue ‘distances’ are controlled by harmonic potentials in the GNM, ANM adopts the further assumption that the three (-x, -y and -z) components of the inter-residue separation vectors obey Gaussian dynamics.
  • ANM thus involves the inversion of a 3N x 3N Hessian matrix H that replaces the N x N Kirchhoff matrix G (Doruker et al., 2000, Atilgan et al., 2001).
